About this cause
To promote community participation in healthy recreation by the provision of facilities for the playing of rugby and bringing disabled people into contact with the sport. Some of the players are from disadvantaged backgrounds, may have a learning disability and have little access to funds to take part in tours and matches. The charity supplements players in hardship to ensure inclusivity.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Mixed ability rugby is the concept of playing rugby whilst ensuring that individuals with learning disabilities, physical disabilities and those recovering from mental health problems are included. It is quite simply ‘rugby for all’ and kindles true spirit and camaraderie between all involved. Through rugby, the players keep fit, meet new friends, learn new skills and become part of a team. In addition, players gain more confidence through developing their skills in a safe and friendly environment, as well as becoming immersed in the additional social activities rugby players love. The Bumble Bees have played all over the UK and Europe, in both friendly and competitive matches. We have participated in the Mixed Ability World Cup, most recently winning the Bronze Cup in June 2025.
