Castelford RUFC - Bumbles 26-21

A really tough fixture saw the Bumbles raise their game and give a Castleford team a real pre season workout.
Castleford RUFC played host to the Bumble Bees Barbarians on 11 August 2013 for a practical display of Rugby For All. A packed clubhouse was captivated by a presentation by the Bumbles’ Inclusive Rugby Team about the benefits to be gained from adopting an inclusive club membership before an enthralling match between their Mixed Ability Team and a Castleford Select side.

The first 15 minutes of the game was a real intensive workout for both sides with lots of hard tackles to contest possession in the forwards. Some tough counter rucking from Castleford saw them coming up with the ball despite a brave effort from the Bumbles. A really skillful Castleford backline pushed the home team 14-0 up with some fantastic quick passing opening up the Bumbles on the flanks. The Bumbles realised this was not going to be am easy match and started to win possession more bringing their own backs into play bringing the score back to 14-7 before half time.

The second half started much the same as the first with a hard forwards contest, the Bumbles had some good possession with the forwards getting some phases together and linking well as a team throughout. Despite this Castleford showed their class and ran in a 3rd try leaving the Bumbles trailing by 19-7.

At this point the Bumbles bench made an inspired substitution bringing on a young player on loan from Halifax who with some assistance tore through a bewildered Castleford team to run in a try from his own 22!!!!

The packed stand was ecstatic, with some Castleford supporters changing allegiance and wanting black and yellow scarfs.

The scene was set for a monumental last 20 minutes at 19-14 with the Bumbles pushing to get the elusive 3rd try, And they did, but Castleford got their fourth home and when the final whistle went it was 26-21.

This was the best I have seen the Bumbles play yet. The contest was intense at times but the difference was the Bumbles can now raise their game to cope with this. We have come a long way on our journey.....

Many thanks to everyone at Castleford for hosting us they were fantastic and a real credit to the Rugby community. We will look forward to a return fixture back at the hive in December.
